I was recently asked by the Newton Project (Enlightening Science) to re-build some classic seventeenth century physics demonstration apparatus. This equipment was used by leading science communicators (e.g. Desaguliers, Hauksbee and Whiston) of the day to help explain Newtons revolutionary ideas through science lecture courses and public lectures.

This work was supported by the Newton Project and the South East Physics Network (SEPnet) project. Jonathan would like to thank Dr Pete Langman and Professor Rob Iliffe (Newton Project), Clare Harvey and Charlotte Thorley (SEPnet).

The Newton Project aims to put much of Newtons written materail on-line. This includes his science, religious and alchemical writings.

The South East Physics Network project SEPnet is exploring various ways to enhance physics learning and A-level uptake, including a series of interactive GCSE revision events. They will be taking these Newton experiments 'out on the road' to various schools and colleges throughout the south of the UK.
